Updates with Google

I had no clue what to label this post. I have an assortment of differnet things today.

Search the Image Game
This is a fun little game. When you're bored sitting at your desk tomorrow, check this game and and let me know what you think. Basically, the application pulls image searches from G database and you have to guess what image phrase was used for the images shown. Guess the Google...Fun! :) via seroundtable

Dynamic Mod-rewrite = Pages Indexed by SE's
Good thread over at SearchEngineWatch started by MikeSEO. If you have ever wondered how to change:
www.somesite.com/catalog.php?cat=widgets&product_id=1234 ... to...
www.somesite.com/catalog/widgets-1234.html ...then I really recommend checking out this thread. Their really should be a reason you shouldn't be having static looking pages for the SE's. This is only going to help get your page indexed more efficiently, which results in extra bonuses at Christmas time! :)

Adwords Getting Better
Google is finally allowing Adwords account holders to target where their ads are being displayed. Instead of having pages of junk, with Adsense ads on it, marketers can pick and choose where their ads are going to be shown. Also, you'll be able to pick CPM based advertising.

Ads to Choose From
While we're on the topic of ads, if you want to get some good ads for cheap...or not so cheap...check out Adbrite. They have a great selection of places to advertise. The links are indexable by the search engines, but that's ok, you can get some quality sites advertising your links and exceptional prices.

302 Outta Here!

Looks like Google has finally fixed the infamous 302 hijacking via Threadwatch. Claus started the post, stating he has a few sites he's been monitoring and everything seems to be looking great. That is excellent news. This has been a problem with Google for over 18 months and definitely needed attention at Googleplex.

Aaron Wall Interview
Aaron was interviewed over at SearchEngineRelevancy.com. I've been reading Aaron's blog for a while and have learned a lot. He's been doing this SEO thing for about as long as I've been doing it.

Generate Jibber
JasonD has created a free tool to create jibberish for content reasons. Need filler content? Create some with WidgetBaiting. Have fun!

Become launches; Google New

Become.com has released the beta from their homepage and looks to be live.

Google Labs
I've been playing around with the new Google maps with satellite view. It's pretty cool. You can look up anything and get a visual for it. When using Google maps, click on 'satellite' in the top right corner.

Also, find a taxi using Google.

GoogleWhack

A friend of mine pointed me to a local event regarding Google. Dave Gorman's GoogleWhack seems to be an interesting little comedy regarding a comedian who typed in several GoogleWhack terms. You can read about the show. If you've been, let me know how it is and if it was funny. I might go, still debating on it. Buy your tickets here.

New Google Patent - Wealth of Information

Google has recently added a new patent to their ever growing lists of patents. This one though is great! Google gives some good insight into what's going on in the Googleplex.

Graywolf has done an excellent job analyzing the patent and posts a remarkable thread, breaking down some of the key elements to the patent and what the future could bring to SEOs and how we market/rank sites.

Some of the information within the patent has been known by us SEOers for a while, but it's reassuring that Google has put it on paper. Personally, this doesn't have a direct effect on anything I've been doing, but hopefully you'll be able to glean some good, informative information from it.
