Consumers say Pop-ups are Pet Peeve...duh!

They've been saying that for years. MarketingVox is reporting that Pop-ups are consumers numero uno pet peeve while surfing. Here's the funny thing: They Work! I'll like to see a contrasting report on successful pop-up campaign.

On that note, most pop-ups get blocked with all the "Pop-Up Blockers" everyone has installed on their browsers. Unless you're using Dynamic driven pop-ups. :)

Scraper Sites Gone
GoogleGuy posted some interesting news yesterday at WMW:

I believe some scraper sites went out today. It's something that we're going to look more at over time, too.

This caused another thread to be started at WMW. Enjoy!

Aaron Interviews JasonD

JasonD, also known as Jason Duke of Strange Logic, is sucked for information. Aaron asks some great questions in this chit chat. Definitely excellent nuggets of information are outlined for you! :)

AskWORDS

MarketingVOX reports that AskJeeves, the 5th largest search engine (4th if you consider AOL as an extension of Google's results), is going to start an in-house PPC program. Currently, they pull results through Google.

Internet Terms Users Know/Don't Know

eMarketer did a study on known Internet Terms that you and I are familiar with, but most internet users aren't. This helps me see how "aware" the general population is...RSS feeds being the lowest on the Totem pole.

Adsense Tips and Tricks

Great post at Graywolf's blog. via Threadwatch

Anonymity... is it a good thing?

Yesterday, I posted about an Internet Marketers website, http://1WeddingDresses.com. If you check the backlinks, you can see it gets a healthy site-wide links from www.find-medical-info.com.

Now, at the bottom of the page, you can see all the other sites this marketer owns. I'm always curious why people link from their own domain. I understand if you just want to get your pages indexed, but then why not remove your site after you have some other linkage? You're potentially giving access to your network of sites, which shows people what markets you're in and what area's your profiting from.

There are a lot of ways you keep your site hidden from the outside. Here are a few:

- DNS Anonymity: One that I use frequently is Domains by Proxy. You can also change DNS settings if your host allows you.

- Linkage: Don't go linking all your domains across your whole network. This can be good sometimes and if the links are related then why not. If you do link your sites together, try to have them on different C class IP addresses, as to not let G, Y! and MSN know what sites you have.

When trying to brand your site and business, I wouldn't use Domains by Proxy or hide any information for that matter.

If I think of anymore anonymity tactics, I'll update ya! :)

Official Adwords Blog

I just got an e-mail notifying me about the Google Adwords blog. This might be interesting to check out every once and awhile. Now, where's the Adsense blog? That would be sweet! :)

How To Make Money - Paul Short Method

A thread over at the Warrior Forum has been revived and I thought I'd make a mention of it. Paul Short was the first respondee to the initial question, which was "Is there really a way to find out if certain online businesses are over-saturated?"

Paul Short responds in an excellent post:

Yesterday morning at about 12:30am I had an idea for a niche web site. I did a little digging and if I had found there was no competition in that niche, I would have stretched, yawned, and went to bed.

Instead, I discovered there IS competition in that niche, lots of it - enough to make PPC advertising in that niche market very expensive and consistent...

So instead of going to bed, I fired up the coffee pot, registered a domain name and built a site based on about 40 targeted keyword phrases. I went through the whole process in about 3 hours and spent the rest of the night getting inbound links from other related sites. THEN I yawned, stretched, and went to bed.

At 2:45 in the afternoon when I awoke, I checked the adsense channel I set up for that site and guess what? I'd already made .33 cents. Right now, about 16 hours later I've already recovered the investment of $8.75 spent on the domain name (traffic from the links), and once the pages get indexed by the search engines I predict that new site will pay me upwards of $100+ a day through Adsense.

Now, all I have to do to the new site is add some short keyworded articles to every page, tweak a little here and there and I'll be good to go. Oh, I'll also do more keyword research end add a few more pages eventually too.

Wanna see? http://1WeddingDresses.com

Excuse the mess, it ain't finished yet but it's already making money, and there's a TON of competing sites out there! (17 of those sites now have my link on them) ;-)

He goes on to explain some other issues like who's indexed his site, linking and the design. The thread has spanned 3 pages now and has been an inspiration to a lot of newbies looking to make money.

Honestly, these little quicky sites can make a decent amount of money. Quantity, not quality, is the way to go to make a substantial amount of cents. But...if you're in the "online money making" game, really look into build sites that attract users with your content, tools, design and sex appeal.

Google Re-Inclusion

Recently, I purchased a few domains names and developed them. Turns out, after checking www.archive.org, they were once spammy page generation sites. This is a problem because Google doesn't want to index them. I started a thread of at SEW regarding this issue.

I don't really have too much faith in Google's re-inclusion capabilities. It seems as though they just don't have the staff or man-power to go through all the re-inclusion requests and manually check to see, if in-fact, the site is now clean.

Oh well, looks like I'll just be throwing up a 301 on those domains and purchase a few more that I'm sure are clean and haven't been previously used before.

Yahoo Update; PR Update

Yahoo's having a little bit of an update, as far as the webmasters say over at WMW. With the gazillion sites I manage, I can't seem to tell yet. I like to give it a day, so I can analyze traffic patterns from several sites/fields to make the call that their's an update.

PageRank Update
If you haven't noticed already, Google did a toolbar PageRank update. Let me say that again...a Toolbar PageRank update. That little great devil that sites on top of my browser plays tricks on everyone. It's only for entertainment purposes, but alas, you see the forums abuzz with talk of how their site is PR5,6,7. Or the latter, their site's dropped in PR. Check your rankings! :) Be proud of that, not the green pixy dust being displayed above your sites. ;)

Father/Son Story; Interview with Dan Thies

I think this is such a great story. Dave Morris, a father living in Ireland is encouraging is son, Dave Jr., how to build and start an affiliate marketing business. He's started a great thread, asking some other members help and it's really turned into a motivating thread for a lot of forum readers. It's a learning experience for both it seems and one that will hopefully have a happy ending with money earned and lessons learned.

Dave and Dave Jr. have started a blog for their new site, covering the day to day details of what it takes to start an affiliate site. I like the idea that their documenting their adventures for other newbies to read.

Their site isn't indexed yet by Google, so if you feel inclined, please go ahead and give 'em a link. I think I'm going to link to them from my Guitar site to help get the ball rolling.

Good luck guys!!! :)

Aaron Wall interview's Dan Thies

Andy Beal Resigns

If you've been snooping around the SEO community for only a short period of time, you've no doubt heard, read articles or scanned Andy Beal's blog. He's the man that put together KeywordRankings.com, one of the largest SEO firms on the planet.

Today he announced he's leaving WebSourced, the company that purchased Andy's KeywordRankings.com company. As you can read here:

In writing this letter, I hope to avoid any confusion as to why I decided to resign as VP of Marketing. This decision is not one that comes lightly. It is clear that my vision for the company’s future does not match-up with its current course. These philosophical differences have led me to conclude that WebSourced’s current path does not align with my own beliefs.

...something is definitely up at WebSourced not to Andy, or other former employees, liking.

Google SERPs
Anyone seen the latest tests on Google's SERPs? Check them out in this SEW thread. Personally, I don't think they'll go through with it. It's definitely a different idea, but boy, would it suck to be the next listing. Talk about having a low CTR if you were #2.

We're Not Afraid!

I'm sure you know the disaster and horrible events that have happened in London the past few days. I can't stand this terrorist shit anymore. Makes me want to be prejudice to everyone of that ethnicity. Of course, the few peppers in the batch of salt is how I need to look at it.

Found this great site today. Were Not Afraid. Send in your pics and let's see the site grow into something London, and the rest of the world, can be proud about...Not Being Afraid! :)

SiteMaps Help..? Huh?

Barry is reporting a thread that boasts of a webmaster who is used the Google SiteMaps feature to pull their Supplemental Result pages out of that index and into Google's main index.

I can definitely see a need to use the Sitemaps if this is true. Up until this point, I never wanted to waste my time submitting my sites to it. To me, it would seem as useless as the "Add Site" feature on any search engine. But hay, maybe I might start if this is an accurate occurrence.

Why I Like Forums
I'm a sucker for posts like these. These kinds of posts really get me motivated to see how much is to gain through Adsense. I haven't really had a chance to utilize Adsense in the way some of these guys have, but I'm going to give it a whirl and see how it goes. I'll post here after a few months and let everyone know the kind of success I've had.

Nothing to Report

Sorry everyone. I haven't seen anything worth putting in this blog. Everything seems re-hashed from months ago or is just boring information that does no one any good.

But, if you want to peek into the mind of a spammer, check out DaveN's blog.
