Getting New Sites in Google's Top Ten
I wanted to discuss the importance of a few factors that help get you into the top ten within Google, without waiting for the sandbox to release you.
I recently developed a satellite site, targetting a 2nd tier keyword to our main keyword sets. The keyword I was targeting didn't get that many searches a day, in fact, in only got around 10 searches a day. The search had less then 200K pages within Google that were revelant to that search.
The domain (with the keyword within the domain) was a single page for lead generation. The traffic that comes to that domain is highly targetted, so the leads are very good quality and convert quite easily.
This site had only 2 incoming links, that WERE NOT using good anchor text to rank for any phrase, BUT the domain...which happened to have the keyword within it, was the anchor text on those 2 links. (hint..hint)
Within 4 days of launching the site, with appropriate Title, H1/H2's, meta's, copy, and everything else that goes into optimizing a page, ranking #2 for that specific keyword and #6 for a different variation of that keyword (people spell it 2 different ways).
Moral of the story...
There are plenty of ways to get a site listed in the top ten with the 900 pd. gorilla Google. This is an example of one way. Target 2nd, 3rd, 4th tier keywords that are highly relevant to your project. Even if its a 5 keyword search phrase and you only get 4-5 people to that page a day, the quality of people hitting that site will be great, and you'll probably convert higher then 50%. This is great ROI, considering the spend on a $6 .com and a $2.50 hosting plan.
Tomorrow (or the next day), I'll be discussing other aspects of your SEM that you should be targeting on a search page.
By the way...
I found this tool that keeps track of your tagging to the various social bookmarking outlets. I personally use TagAutomator, but this tool will do the trick as well.
