Old Domains Equals Good Times
Last week, my partner and I picked up a great domain. The domain has been online since 1998 and has about 500 backlinks going to it. We go this at the bargain price of $2k.
Now, I have to admit, I couldn't believe we go the domain at that price. We're going to be turning the domain into an ecommerce website, selling all sorts of products within the niche.
You might ask, "What's so great about an old domain?"
Well, let me tell you! :) In Google especially, the older the domain is, the easier it is to rank a site. Google has several different filters online and one of them is how old the site has been online. Of course, if you put enough time and effort into building up a domain, you'll be able to get it ranked. But if you can purchase a site that has been online for a while and has acquired lots of backlinks, you're golden.
Whenever you can, try and purchase older domains that have been online for a while. Here are a few things I look for:
- Age of domain (at least 3 years old)
- Number of backlinks (if 0, then its probably not a good buy)
- Number of pages indexed (this is not extremely important, but good to know)
By checking those factors, I can tell if a site is a good buy or not, for ranking "quickly" purposes.
Good luck with your own hunt!
